Graphic Design

Graphic design is an interesting field as it brings out ones ability to be creative. The student will be taken through design considerations and rules, and the by step approach to translating a thought, idea or vision into works of art - reality.

By using the defacto graphic design application, Photoshop, the student will be taught design principles and techniques to enable them design things as flyers, posters, banners and more.

Made up of this course are two modules: Graphic Design (Part I) and Graphic Design (Part II).

  • Summary

    This course introduces students Adobe Photoshop interface, its tools, features, and basic techniques of using the application.

    Objectives

    Upon completion of the course participants will:

    • Be familiar with the Photoshop Interface 
    • Learn to create, examine and navigate new documents
    • Learn to use essential keyboard shortcuts
    • Learn about the selection, marquee, lasso and magic wand tool
    • Learn about layers and how to apply them
    • Learn how to create and use colour swatches 
    • Learn how to create and use brushes and the eye dropper tool
    • Learn how to undo mistakes and using the History Palette 
    • Learn how to use rulers, create text and shapes 

    Prerequisite

    • Basics of Computing
    • Microsoft Office Word

    Target

    • Persons interested in a career in graphic design
    • Persons who wish to know how to use Adobe Photoshop to create and manipulate images
  • Summary

    The course emphasizing on photographic editing. Students will be introduced to how to resize, convert and format photographic images. It will also be used to create powerful visual enhancements and special photographic effects. After the course, students will have the needed confident to exhibit their creativity in creating visual works using the interface.

    • Learn to edit, save, make and convert smart objects
    • Learn to use the filter and special effect tools
    • Learn about photo merge and other automation mechanism
    • Learn about advance layer styles and how to create 3D effects
    • Learn how to trim and crop images
    • Learn how to use the print dialog box
    • Learn how to save files in different formats
    • Learn about adobe bridge and how to use adobe device central
